Hi, I am having problem with breathing. When I breathe it seems my ribs are not expanding. Could you give suggestions why my ribs are not expanding ?

Try breathing through your nose!
Take a breath through your nose quickly and quickly breathe out. You should feel it.
Then when you're practicing, inhale through your nose as you take your breath to warm up and sing.
Hope this helps!

Good advice, Amanda! Here's an article I wrote that should help, Daniel: https://makingmusicmag.com/breathing-exercises-for-singing/.

Thank you very much for you advices. I have read your article and I am a bit confused about pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. How pelvic floor and abdominal muscles can affect breathing ?

Here's a good video explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRAaJN3FC6A. Lungs expand, diaphragm drops (and contracts) with the pelvic floor below it. Our goal is to keep the diaphragm low for longer (by engaging our abs and pelvic floor in that gentle "down and out" motion) so our lungs don't expel all our air quickly and we can sing with properly supported, compressed air without relying entirely on the vocal folds to hold back the air pressure we've built up.

Check out some of the lessons in vocal health/warm ups Daniel. Camille does a fantastic job of breaking that down in detail. Check those out.
