Vocal range

Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me advice on vocal range?

I have been practicing the warm ups in both alto and soprano. I was once a soprano, perhaps more of a mezzo soprano. Recently my voice is lower and I can't quite hit those higher notes like I used to.

The reason I have been practicing both ranges is because I want to regain a higher range but strengthen the lower notes at the same time. If that makes any sense...

I worry though that this maybe isn't the right thing to do, that I could be tiring my voice out.

Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

I want to strengthen the voice I currently have but I don't want to say goodbye to the high range I once had. I worry if I only practice alto exercises then I will never be able to reach those high notes again.

    Natasha :)

Great question Natasha! It's normal for your range to change with age. My best advice is to sing what's generally comfortable, all the while "touching on" those outer limits within your warmup - as long as you're not feeling pain during or after singing. Please feel free to modify exercises as well (for example, I usually modify the highest "soprano" exercises for myself by singing on an NG instead of an open vowel, especially at first). Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for this advice. I will incorporate it all into my warm-up today :)
