I find myself able to hold notes and do most warm ups and sing vowels and consonants holding the note and leaving vibrato at the end of phrases or words. As soon as I start singing the actual words and phrases I throw vibrato in all over the place. Is that right, wrong, how do I control it?

Hi, Claudia! It's certainly not wrong, but it could be distracting if you're singing a genre wherein constant vibrato isn't the norm. You might find it helpful to sing the melody on a syllable first (like "do", for example) before going to lyrics. You may also find the following lessons helpful, working on vibrato control:
