Sore throat after practising

    Hello,

    I just wanted some advice.

After I practised singing I tend to have a bit of a tight throat. I'm not pushing or straining during the workout. I started to notice it last week, so I decided to rest my voice and took a bit of time off. Then I started again yesterday and today, I have only been doing basic warm-ups to ease my way into it, however my throat is still tight after... am I doing something wrong? I'm terrified that I might have injured something.

Hi, Amy! I can't make an assessment without seeing/hearing you, but I wouldn't be worried unless you've been hoarse for 2+ weeks. Vocal injury usually results from singing with unhealthy technique (like singing very high & loudly in chest voice for long periods of time) or from singing while sick, when the voice is more injury-prone. The safest thing to do is give your voice more time to rest, stay hydrated, and consider very gentle vocalization after several days rest.

Here's an article on preventing vocal injury (and signs of injury): https://www.30daysinger.com/blog/vocal-nodules-preventing-injuries

If you'd like some feedback within a lesson at any point, here's the link to book with myself or Abram: https://www.30daysinger.com/live-lesson

    Wishing you good health!
