Hi Camille,
I'm an alto and I'm really having a hard time singing in mixed voice when it comes to higher pitches. My voice always flips into head voice, so when I try to sing with more power my high notes sound strained and terrible... I've tried the "no, no, no..." exercise and also some mixed voice exercises on YouTube, but I still don't get it...
What steps could I follow to improve on that?
are there any exercises I could try?
appreciate your help,
Thank you,
Larissa

Hi, Larissa! If you tend to shout or over-squeeze, you might try a syllable with a softer consonant (like V or Z) plus a medium or narrow vowel (like OH or the vowel in BOOK). It's a delicate balance to make sure your larynx isn't rising to "shout", while it's also not overly low (which can lead to flipping into head voice). See below for a few more resources!

If no exercises seem to be working, it may be worth booking a private lesson so that together we can find some that do!
