So I'm a complete beginner on day 2! I did the exercise to determine the ball park for my vocal range. After doing this twice, it seems clear that I am most comfortable in the tenor range. I can't hit the very lowest notes cleanly (I sound sort of froggy) but the rest of them are fine and I would say the most comfortable. I tried the alto range, I can hit maybe half of those and they quickly get way to high. Can women be a tenor? Does being a women in a lower register change how I do these courses? I know part of it is being past a certain age. Maybe I started this whole adventure a bit too late?

Hi, Jamie! There are definitely female tenors and male altos - there's a lot of crossover in those ranges. Please see below for some tips on how to approach the exercises:
You can always drop out if an exercise gets too high or low to be sung comfortably. But before dropping out, try three things:
1. Modify the exercise to make it easier (ie: sing on a lip trill, hum or NN/NG instead of an open vowel or other syllable, if that's more doable).
2. Sing most of the exercise, and just "think" (audiate, or sing in your head) the pitches you can't reach without straining or going sharp/flat. This gives your vocal folds an opportunity to still adjust and prepare to sing those out-of-reach pitches, even if just air comes out.
3. Make sure you're shifting registers when necessary. For example, you may be unable to sing higher pitches because you're still in chest voice, in which case you'd need to "shift gears" and find your head voice placement.
