Breath control

    Hi Ms Camille

    1. When I am singing, should I keep my belly pointed out or in? If I completely relax, my belly will point out to look like someone with potbelly. However, if I am to lift my spine and chest (which I am supposed to do), my belly will go in and align with my abdomen.

    2. Should I release air from my lungs fast when singing? Sure, I will run out of air more quickly, but doing so requires less effort compared to releasing air slowly. It feels that I need to have more control to release my air slowly while maintaining the same volume and tone as the scenario of releasing air quickly. Which method is used by professional singers?

    1. Either method can work! You see some singers keep their belly relaxed, and others draw their belly inward. What seems to work best for you?

Here's a newer lesson on breathing that may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM5lrvtQTYY

    2. Usually, our goal is to release air slowly and steadily. This becomes especially hard if you're taking in more air than you need, though! Experiment with different size of inhalation (volume of air coming in).

I see, thank you for your replies! For the issue about the position of my belly, I won't think about it when singing as both positions are fine.
