Breath

I sing quite much and some people tell me that I've got a beautiful voice. BUT: I run out of breath very quickly. In the first lesson of the second 30-days-course, Camille says at the hiss-to-hum-exercise: "Careful that you don't collapse." I have no idea how to avoid this collapsing. Exhaling, the first that goes in (or collapses) is the upper belly and next is the rib-cage. - Any idea how to learn to keep the rib-cage up is very welcome.

    Thank you so much.

Hi, Claudia! If you keep your chest elevated and shoulders back & down, it should slow down the contraction/collapse. You will eventually contract inwards as you use your air, but we're looking for a slow and steady release, instead of air rushing out all at once. I sometimes put the backs of my hands on my cheeks, elbows out to the sides, to stay elevated throughout a phrase. Hope that helps! And as long as you're not starting to slouch forward, collapsing the chest, I'd worry less about how elevated the ribs are. I don't want you feeling rigid or holding your breath to keep the ribs up!
