Hello Camille!
I've taken a look into the video “Singing Breath Of Triumph!” - Quick Singing Tips Ep. 13 and at around 2:18, Justin Stoney tells us that if we have proper breath support, our ribs, belly, and back will all expand a little bit when we sing. Now that gave me a question. As long as we aren't doing legato or smooth phrases, does every word mean like a "pop-out"? Thanks again!

You may feel your abdomen "pop out" at the beginning of a phrase, or in short bursts if you're singing something staccato (short and detached). In general, I only feel a "pop-out" at the beginning of a phrase, and I think "down and out" mainly to resist the body's tendency to collapse. But we are using our air, so some contraction is to be expected! Ultimately: do what you find works best for you and your body. There's more than one way to engage your body and support the sound.
