Hi all,
I know all the lessons encourage us to stand up and sing but has anyone had any luck sitting down while practicing? I live in a small apartment and I feel like I'm bothering my neighbors/family ( also a tad emberassed) when practicing and I've been squeezing in practices while driving and when stuck in traffic. I'm able to hit higher notes without feeling like I'm bothering anyone (or emberassing myself). I make sure to keep my posture solid and warm up per usual. Also makes it easier to play music and sing along.
What's your opinion on practicing sitting vs standing?

Hi Mohammed,
Most professional choir rehearsals (that I've been in) are mostly seated. It's certainly possible to sing well in a seated position! For belting, I do recommend you stand, though.
When you're seated, sit on the edge of your chair so your feet are on the ground. Keep your spine long and be careful of the tendency to reach your chin forward or roll your shoulders forward. We want to be just as energized and tall in our seated posture as in our standing!
Here's an article I wrote on practicing quietly (with neighbors or roommates) as well:
