Camille...Through these past months of working with you every day online, I've found new vocal strength, increased range, less strain and more breath control. It's amazing and I'm indebted to you. The "new voice" I've discovered happens when I raise the soft pallet which enables me to reach high notes unavailable to me before. That "new voice" is different than my chest voice, but it is not falsetto. I'd love to meld the two: that new voice (which sounds almost operatic) and the chest voice which everyone recognizes as me. Can you suggest a pathway to this?
Indebted,
Randy

So happy to hear about your progress, Randy! What happens when you sing in your chest voice range with that raised palate? My advice would be to start in that "mix" zone, finding a vowel that feels stable, and then sing a descending scale (for example, 54321 or 5-3-1) into your chest voice range, aiming to maintain the position and tone quality of your mix. We'll do that sometimes to train head voice function in the middle and low voice, especially for students who get "stuck" in chest voice. Let me know if that makes sense!
