Hi Camille,
I skip around many lessons every day, and sometimes I feel like I'm almost locking onto that "lighter head tone quality" you sometimes speak of. I do need that in my singing, badly, and wonder if you could name which exercises and vowels to concentrate on for that, to help me grasp it more thoroughly. When I lose that knack, I find I'm straining to reach the same notes in upper chest voice, and it tends to sound a little strained or even hoarse. Thank you, Randy

In general, narrow vowels (like EE and OO) help us find head function easily. Straw phonation (singing through a straw) can also do that!
From there, you can open up to slightly more open vowels like the vowels in BOOK, or SIT.
