Hi I am new here look forward to improving - it wont be hard as quite terrible currently

Breath - in through nose or mouth?

Confidence -  i have sung out of key terribly all my life and am brunt of jokes from even my family. So I have made a decision to become the best singer I can be to compliment my guitar (the guitar I can handle very well)  So I am practising out of ear reach and also in the car but I can tell my voice even expresses a lack of confidence (hope this make sense)  any tips?

It should be through the mouth at the start(for a stronger breath), and in from the nose while pausing through phrases(to keep the throat from getting too dry). I have the same issue of singing with confidence. My best thought is to sing with vibrato because it is built up of good singing technique overall. The thing that helped me sing in tune was using PerfectPitch(an app). Good tune and released voice might sound the best.

Good tips, Alex! I always breathe through my mouth when singing (even for quick "catch breaths"), but you're welcome to breathe through your nose when you need more moisturized air.

Steve, please see here for my best advice on building confidence: https://www.30daysinger.com/blog/build-confidence-as-a-singer
